Ghana’s FIFA ranking unchanged despite recent defeats to USA and Mexico

Black Stars maintained their position in the October 2023 FIFA World Rankings despite suffering losses to the USA and Mexico during the international break in October.

The Black Stars faced a tough month, with a 4-0 defeat to the USA and a 2-0 loss to Mexico, both games taking place in the United States. Ghana struggled to make an impact in these matches, managing only two shots on target.

The updated FIFA rankings, released on October 26, show that Ghana continue to hold the 60th position globally and remains the 11th best-ranked team in Africa. These rankings mirror their positions in the September rankings.

Looking ahead, Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton will aim to regroup and address the team’s performance as they prepare for the November 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for January.

The outcomes of the World Cup qualifiers will significantly influence expectations for the AFCON.
